Really good book that covers lots of ground,
Recently I got interested (finally) in whipping my lawn into shape, and I ended up getting this book. I have to say that I’m very happy with my purchase. Everything is explained in a very clear fashion, and it covers pretty much every aspect of fixing up your lawn that you could think of: what types of grass are good for which climates/situations, how to control weeds, aerating, mowing, etc. This book really covers a lot of ground.
Since this is the first book I’ve purchased on lawn care, I don’t really have much basis for comparison, but as far as my personal experience goes, I personally found it extremely helpful and informative.

|Very useful book, so far has paid for itself,
My husband and I have found this book very useful: due to the current economy, we’re trying to save money whenever possible, so we decided to cancel our lawn care service and do it ourselves. Although obviously it’s easier to pay someone else if you have the money, we’ve really noticed the savings every month, and our yard still looks very professional (in my humble opinion
. The advice and tips in this book have been a big reason for that, so I would recommend that for anyone interested in saving themselves some money, this book is a good buy, and so far (for us at least) it’s already paid for itself.

The pros:
* Well written in a conversational style
* Organize so you can quickly find the topic that you are interested in
The cons:
* This book is a basic primer that gives you a broad overview of the subject but not much detailed knowledge
* The Kindle edition lacks pictures, which would have been very useful for things like weed identification
Overall, this is a reasonable overview on the subject of lawn care that you can breeze through very quickly. However, it doesn’t have much depth. Perhaps being titled as a ‘beginner’ book I should have expected this. However, I typically think “beginner” reflects where I currently am, not where I want to end up.
This book may be a good choice for someone who is looking for basic information that is presented in a well organized fashion. Others may prefer to get similar overview information by searching the web. I was a bit disappointed.
